Following its launch in October 2009 Reading Street Pastors has developed steadily. When launched in October there were 27 initial volunteers from a wide range of churches across Reading.

Since then these volunteers, in teams of 6 - 8 people have been going out on Friday nights and have:

  • Chatted with over 600 people
  • Calmed 26 aggressive situations
  • Supported 53 vulnerable people
  • Picked up 146 glass bottles
  • Dealt with 4 first aid incidents
  • Prevented hypothermia by handing out 8 safety blankets
  • Protected 34 pairs of bare feet by giving away of flip-flops
  • Handed out over 600 lollipops helping to reduce anti-social behaviour by boosting sugar levels
  • Handed out 100’s of widgets to prevent drinks being spiked
  • Enjoyed volunteering over 550 hours to caring, listening and helping those in need
