Our Work

   DETACHED WORK

The detached youth work is the backbone of our work. It is the first point of contact and the most important part of the cycle that makes our work so unique. Detached work

There is a JAC team out in Woodley at least 50 weeks of the year; in most weeks there is a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night team working in different areas of Woodley. There are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night teams in Earley. There is now also a Friday night team in Wokingham and Newtown. Our mobile vehicles, the Camels, are used for the detached sessions and also for the small group work in Waingels.

                                                                           SCHOOLS WORK

Schools WorkJAC's school's work covers two areas - lunchtime sessions and the small group sessions.

Each lunchtime JAC has a team at Bulmershe. They are on foot around the school grounds and in the dining  hall and  can have contact with up to 120 young people. On Friday lunchtimes there is a team at Waingels, also on foot, who have contact with an average of 69 young people each session.

Since September 2005, JAC has been running the Emotional Literacy Programme, for all year groups. As of September 2008, these will now only be running in Waingels.  Topics include self-image, alcohol, drugs and anger management. Each programme has 8 sessions, and these groups have gone well so far.

                                                                               FAMILY WORK

Family workEven though it's original remit was for work with young people, there is an increasing need for JAC to ground this work in the family setting.

As well as parenting advice, JAC has organised various activities including self-esteem/social skills workshops, outward-bound activities, a "pamper night" for mums and daughters and a fishing trip for dads and sons.

 The JAC work continues.....

  • Earley - now including family work
  • Crowthorne - talks underway
  • Wokingham - now in Woosehill
  • Newtown - new team out every Friday
